FAC SUMMER ARTS INTENSIVE

The Fine Arts Center Summer Arts Intensive is a four-day program designed to help prepare students for the Fine Arts Center curriculum. The program is geared toward students who

  1. Have a strong interest in the Arts and want to deepen their skills.
  2. Are in Middle School or High School and intend on auditioning for the FAC in the future.
  3. Have auditioned for the FAC and want to improve their skills.

The program runs from June 2-5, 2025 at the Fine Arts Center – 102 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville.  All students who want to attend the Summer Arts Intensive must apply via the following Google Form – https://forms.gle/sdvcS1W21z9Xe1Zg6.  Based on the evidence submitted in the form, students will be placed into one of the two sessions:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – This session will be for novice to medium level students who desire to improve their fundamentals under the guidance of our teaching artists.
  • 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. – This session is for more advanced students who will work with our teaching artists on sharpening and refining their already present skills.

Areas of Study & Description of Curricula

  • Morning Session – this session will focus on developing design fundamentals.  Students will work in an individualized, hands-on environment, learning the skills they need to build on in order to be a candidate for our FAC Architecture Program.
  • Afternoon Session – students in this session will focus on learning design vocabulary and skills to improve their craft in sketching, drawing, and modeling.

Both the morning and afternoon sessions will meet students where they are and help them begin the journey to their next level of potential.  Students will learn techniques to improve their writing in specific genres, engage in workshopping with classmates, and take home new perspectives on their craft.

  • Morning Session – this class is for the beginning or novice dancer who has little or no experience with ballet and modern dance styles. We will work with students to develop a basis for technique and movement so that they can continue to progress towards an audition at the FAC>
  • Afternoon Session – this class is for students who have a background in ballet and/or modern dance and are ready to take their skills to the next level.  Classes will be centered on refining technique, with students receiving individualized feedback and exercises to improve their form.
  • Morning Session – students who are new to improvisation will get their start in the class, learning scales, harmony, and technique as a gateway to improvising.  Jazz forms and vocabulary will be introduced during the four-day workshop.
  • Afternoon Session – this class will help students to improve their improvisational skills, focusing on vocabulary, interaction within a jazz combo, and deep listening skills.  Students will perform a collaborative concert at the conclusion of the intensive.
  • Morning Session – progressing percussionists will get detailed instruction on improving the grip, feel, rhythmic integrity, and overall technique on snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, and auxiliary percussion.
  • Afternoon Session – this class will serve as the foundation for students who are starting at the FAC in the 25-26 school year.  Students will receive instruction that will help them to start strong in the FAC Percussion Studio.
  • Morning Session – Students will get an overview of our program and start to dive into Protools and other software plugins and learn how they can use their time at home to improve their skills as a music engineer, composer or producer.
  • Afternoon Session – Students who already have some experience recording digital or live music will get exposure to a host of commercial level plugins and we will also cover some of the “good habits” of creating Pro Tools sessions and file management.
  • Morning Session – younger students or those who are still progressing through fundamentals will greatly benefit from the morning session in the Strings program.  Students will learn exercises to improve tone quality, bowing technique, posture, scale knowledge, and more.  An essential program for students who want to eventually audition for our Chamber Strings program.
  • Afternoon Session – this session will be centered around chamber music and the corresponding ensemble techniques that we teach at the FAC.  Students will be grouped into small ensembles and will learn music for a culminating performance at the end of the Intensive.
  • Morning Session – this session is for middle school students who want to improve their singing technique.  Vocal health, tone production, breath support, and performance techniques will be covered.  Students will develop their self-confidence as they work in a dynamic, collaborative studio environment.
  • Afternoon Session – this session is for students who have been accepted into the FAC Voice program or those who are on the FAC Wait List.  Individualized coaching on musical theater and classical pieces will help the participants become expressive singing actors.
  • Morning Session – middle school students have a lot of experience playing in band class, but not in smaller ensembles where they need to be more independent.  Students in this session will build confidence by improving their listening skills, tone production, and individual technique.  They will also begin to experience the chamber ensemble format, playing in duos, trios, and more.
  • Afternoon Session –  this session is for students who have been accepted into the FAC Winds Studio or those who are on the FAC Winds Wait List.  Individualized instruction will help the participants to take their technique to the next level, building confidence in their musicianship.
  • Are you a maker?  Do you enjoy hands-on projects that require creativity?  Have you ever wanted to be the person creating the lights, sound, and scenery at a performance?  Our TD&P Intensive will provide you with the exposure to this art form, bringing the magic of the backstage technician to life.
  • Morning Session – This session will be for novice to medium level middle and high school actors. This session will focus on improving fundamentals.
  • Afternoon Session – This session is for moderate to advanced students who will work with our teaching artists on sharpening and refining their skills.
